Question 1

The following concepts must be defined:

1.1 African metaphysics
African metaphysics is defined by Ozumba as “the African way of perceiving,
interpreting and making meaning out of interactions, among beings and reality in
general. It is the totality of the African’s perception of reality”.1
African metaphysics is the approach Africans see and conceptualise relations and
connections among people themselves and the environment in which they live. It is
one of the fundamental areas in philosophy and it tries to reach a more inclusive view
of reality short of overlooking the unique place of individual things in the holism of
reality. Spacing of 12pt is required after each paragraph.

1.2 Ethnophilosophy
“Ethnophilosophy refers to bodies of belief and knowledge that have philosophical
relevance and which can be redescribed in terms drawn from academic philosophy,
but which have not been consciously formulated as philosophy by philosophers.
These bodies of belief and knowledge are manifested in the thoughts and actions of
people who share a common culture”.2
Ethnophilosophy is the study of different systems of indigenous philosophy. It is
founded on the idea that a specific culture can have a viewpoint that is not applicable
and accessible to all individuals and cultures across the world. One of the examples
of ethnophilosophy is African philosophy that uses distinct African
philosophical methods. Unnecessary/incorrect spacing.

1.3 Decolonisation (5)
“Decolonisation is the withdrawal from its former colonies of a colonial power; the
acquisition of political or economic independence by such colonies”.3
Decolonisation is getting rid of colonization through emancipating a country from
being dependent on another country to being independent. There should be consistency in use of
language, that is, use of “s” or “z” in
“decolonisation” or “colonisation”.

1.4 Negritude (5)
“Negritude is the awareness and cultivation of the Negro heritage, values, and
culture”.4
Negritude is the assertion of black people by black people as well as the assertion of
the values of civilization of the black population. This notion arose as the expression
of rebellion against the historical situation of French colonialism and racism against
black people.

Question 2

Is this the title of the article in question? Should
South Africa is just another African country be in open and close quotation marks.

Space between paragraphs should only be 12pt.

Prince Mashele has written an article where he was stating the Africanism of South
Africa as an African country with the majority of the people in support of the
government regardless of its flaws.

The article narrates about what former president Zuma has done is to make us come
to the realisation that our country is just another African country, not some exceptional
country on the southern tip of the African continent and that in a typical African
country, ordinary people don’t expect much of politicians, because people get tired of
repeated empty promises.
According to Mashele Africans and their leaders don’t like to copy from the Western
countries but would rather remain African, and do things the way Africans know how.

This come with an acceptance that that those who have power, have it for themselves
and their friends and families as a philosophy hence ANC members of parliament
have been defending Zuma regardless of his flaws. The people need to come back to
reality, and accept that South Africa is a typical African country and this will give them
a fairly good idea of what the country’s future might look like.
It is an illusion for people to think that a day is coming when SA will look like other
countries, for example the US instead it is more on the side of Zimbabwe, where one
ruler is more powerful than the rest of the population. It would not make any difference
even if Julius Malema were to become president. South Africa has actually come to
the beginning of a typical African country Fullstop missing at the end of the

He narrates that most people get restless about the future of SA because they have
Western models in mind, forgetting that ours is an African country. Analysed carefully,
the notion of SA coming to an “end” is an expression of a Western value system – of

“African legal philosophy is a philosophy that affirms and empowers the humanity of
every African, a philosophy in which the material expression of the dignity of every
African is recognised and affirmed”.5 This philosophy presents world views of Africans
on different matters particularly those that are related to law and tradition.

African legal philosophy is a philosophy produced by African people and it presents
African worldviews, or philosophy that uses distinct African philosophical methods.
Africa as a continent has many different philosophers with emanating from different
cultures and traditions resulting in different types of African legal philosophies as

Ethnophilosophy which is a philosophy that denotes its foundation on shared thoughts
as well collective wisdom that is transferred orally from one generation to the next by
means of traditional methods. In this approach, philosophical viewpoints are made
using sayings and metaphors If this is a direct quotation it should be in quotation marks
and the source must be referenced in the footnotes. The
sentence must also end in a fullstop.
