The approach to patient education must be at the patient’s level of understanding. “Health care
professionals need to understand the life stages of the patient and use that knowledge in providing
patient education” (GCU). The age specific considerations are expected to deliver appropriate care.
"Regardless of the purpose of giving patients information, in order to provide patient-centered teaching,
health professionals need a framework for understanding the patient so that information can be
delivered in a way that will be the most meaningful and useful to the patient. Such a framework enables
patients to apply information and carry out recommendations in the context of their daily life" (Falvo,
2011).

In any physical examination, respect is given to patient. Sister Mary has to be educated the importance
of examination and test to be done. Proper communication is the key to the whole process. There has
to be a consideration of privacy to allow her obligation prayer in between the procedures. The need of
wearing hospital gown and removing jewelries especially in CT scan has to be explained. Her learning
ability has to be assessed for better patient’s comprehension and that she'll be able to comply and
participate in her examination and test procedures.

“Psychosocial support - A general term for any non-therapeutic intervention that helps a person cope
with stressors in the home or at work” (The Free Dictionary). “Psychosocial support addresses a person’s
emotional, social, mental and spiritual needs – all essential elements of positive human development”
(OVC, 2016). “Psychosocial factors affecting the patient's ability to comply with patient education must
be taken into consideration. Some psychological factors in patients would include: the stage of life (age
of the patient), the past experiences and expectations, and attitudes about illness” GCU).



Health care professional may have some issue in working with Sister Mary for example in her doing a
sign of cross as her ritual prayer before and after every each test procedure to be done. As a health care
career is to help people and really care about each person as an individual. Sometimes it may make
some of them feel uncomfortable each time when Sister Mary doing her religious practice as it may
