The impact of technology on the global community:
1. People communicate on a global scale: speed and cost are no longer
barriers.
2. Work, business and competition take place on a global scale: ITC
technology allows us to cut across geographical boundaries and time
barriers.
3. The flow of information is difficult to control and restrict:
4. Telecommuting is possible: ICT has changed the workplace and the
traditional way of working. Workers can communicate with one
another, their employers and customers electronically irrespective of
distance.

Social networking and the impact of ICT:
Characteristics of these services: They are free, users register to use
the services, encourage as many people as possible to join, they make
money by gathering information about their users and selling that
information.

Virtual communities:
A virtual community is a group of people who rather online to share
ideas and interests.
WhatsApp groups, Facebook Group, Reddit, Quora, Pinterest etc.
Kickstarter and IndieGoGo:
Both are platforms for crowdfunding- the practice of funding someone’s
business idea or project through small amounts contributed by large
groups of people, usually before a project is started.
Pinterest:
Acts like a virtual pinboard.

Employment:
Benefit: new entrepreneurial opportunities and jobs created by the IT
sector.
Harm: Job losses and unemployment occur because of computerised
automation.

Benefit: ITC improves access to information and resources
