Advanced Pharmacology Fundamentals Reflection
This Advanced Pharmacology Fundamentals course has been both challenging and
beneficial. Taking this course has taught me many new things and I have gained a better
understanding of concepts only partially understood prior to this course. A challenging aspect of
prescribing medicines is the chance of hazardous drug interactions with the patients on multiple
medicines. Having sound critical thinking in decision making is critical when it comes to
prescriptive authority. Prescribing medications is an awesome responsibility as medications can
alter people’s lives. This awesome responsibility can be frightening as providers do not always
know the medications patients are taking, which can cause concerns when prescribing new
medications.
I must acknowledge that this course has prepared me to satisfy Program Outcome One:
Provide high quality, safe, patient-centered care grounded in holistic health principles (holistic
health & patient-centered care); MSN Essential One: Background for Practice from Sciences and
Humanities; as well as Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies One: Scientific Foundation
Competencies.
Advanced Pharmacology Fundamentals has helped this student to achieve MSN
Essential One: Background for Practice from Sciences and Humanities. Advanced Practice
Nurses should apply research discoveries within the practice environment, solve issues, work as
a change advocate and promulgates results (AACN, 2011). The case study assignments we did in
this class allowed me to employ evidence, clinical discernment and interpreting methods to
enhance related outcomes for patient groups (AACN, 2011). The advanced practice nurse must
be able to articulate to a diversity of audiences, the evidence-base for practice determinations, in
