Subject: Cross-cultural communication skills are important
Dear Ms. Annabi and Mr. Sutton,
I am writing this e-mail to inform you why cross-cultural communication skills are important.
In the upcoming school year, I wanted to go to Norway for my internship, but due to the COVID-19
pandemic restrictions, it is unfortunately impossible at the moment. Since I was planning to do my
second internship also abroad, cross-cultural communication skills are really important. Therefore
you should learn the norms and values of the country. Next, you should learn the countries language
to understand the people. As a result, you will also try to make the country your home. And finally, it
is valuable for you to get more knowledge. Consequently, to get used to the new environment, it is
important to have cross-cultural communication skills. This will help you to adapt to the new
environment.
In the future I would like to work abroad as well, many companies value people that have
international and/or intercultural experiences. They would value people because they have
experience in cross-cultural environments, so if a company has hired people with different
backgrounds you would easily adapt to the corporate culture. It would also help for communicating
with people of the same background as yours. Some customers only speak one language, it would be
functional if you would understand the customer. For universities, it would be functional as well for
exchanging programs such as internships or minors.
I am looking forward to hearing from you what your thoughts are about cross-cultural
communication skills.
Kind regards,
…..
