Part I Multiple Regression Analysis
Research Question
How do problems with public schools and public health clinics predict the level of trust
people have with governments? Answering this research question provides policymakers with
information on how to invest resources to improve trust in government. The dependent variable
is trust in government index, and the independent variables are problems with public schools and
problems with public health clinics. The null hypothesis states that there will be no association
between problems with public schools or health clinics and the level of trust in the government.
Results
The multiple regression resulted in an adjusted R Squared value of .044, indicating that
4.4% of the variation in trust in government index is accounted for by the independent variables
(Frankfort-Nachmias et al., 2021). While the amount of variation is small, the ANOVA results
indicate that it is statistically significant with p<.001. Furthermore, the unstandardized
coefficients suggest that for every unit, problems with public schools or public health clinics
increase, trust in government will decrease -.06 and -.125, respectively.
