QUESTION 1
1.1 DISCUSS THE IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING AND
LEARNING. (4)
Integrating technology is vital since it promotes teamwork and effectively
communicates information. Teachers also require technology to gain information
because it assists them in gathering additional resources that will help them evolve
using various teaching and learning strategies. However, strengthening their
technical skills will help empower students to succeed because integrating
technology will make lessons more interactive and fun for students to participate in.
1.2 EXPLAIN FIVE (5) CHALLENGES THAT SCHOOL’S EXPERIENCE WHEN INTEGRATING
TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING AND LEARNING ESPECIALLY IN SOUTH AFRICA. (5)
South African schools face numerous challenges when integrating technology into
their classrooms as crime rates rise. Inadequate security measures pose a challenge
when expensive technology is stolen from classrooms, raising costs to ensure the
security of technological equipment as well as replacing stolen goods. When schools
receive the necessary technology, teachers are trained on how to use it but are not
given sufficient opportunity to get acquainted with the use of tablets and interactive
whiteboards, which causes them to lose confidence in using the equipment because
they fear the unknown factors of technological developments and are too afraid to
experiment with new technology solutions. Schools also avoid paying network
operators on time, rendering the equipment useless because no internet access is
available for teachers to use for the equipment.
1.3 PROPOSE FIVE (5) WAYS THAT CAN ASSIST SCHOOLS WITH THE CHALLENGES THEY
HAVE IN INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY. (5)
Given that the Department of Education wishes to bring teaching and learning into
the twenty-first century by incorporating technology into classrooms, they must take
responsibility for providing support to schools in terms of technological resources,
educating teachers to ensure they are confident in using the technology, and
maintaining the technological equipment. They must also support schools in
recruiting ICT coordinators to assist educators when problems arise, and they must
conduct follow-up sessions to ensure that everything is working well. The schools
must also prepare an annual ICT budget with the assistance of the Department.
