Despite South Africa being characterised by strong cultural influences from the west, a majority of indigenous citizens firmly holds their cultural values to date. For instance western medicine is only accepted superficially with most patients occasionally consulting traditional healers. The traditional culture of healing in south Africa have come to be assimilated and admired by most people. Traditional healing in this part of Africa may be traced back to the time during which their cultural foundations were being laid. Throughout the world, traditional healing being a central part of culture is a representation of total believes, customs, attitudes, established practices, and methods indicative of their views. For citizen in south Africa, majority believes that the world is never void but filled by varied elements held together in harmony, unity, and totality by forces that maintain equilibrium and balance between them. A distinctive cosmology by the zulu is a united universe where earth, sky, plants, animals and the whole universe all coexist in different levels of balance between edict and malady.
