In unit 7, I investigated health and safety legislation and policies, that I will
apply to my case study, Merryvale residence and Zebra ward. The policies and
procedures need to be applied to the case study I've chosen, and explore how
it can help keep the service users safe from harm, as the staff has the authority
to do so. It is critical for employees to follow the legislation because this will
allow them to improve the service while also protecting others.

1. legal obligation to protect wellbeing and prevent harm
In this case study, the staff member had failed in duty in care due to the two
same-sex couples not being treated as they should have in any other residence as
they have been discriminated against. This shows how the couple might not feel
comfortable with how the situation was dealt with and feel like they aren't treated
according to the code of conduct because it sets out guidelines about how the staff
could be behaving when interacting with the service users, able to promote the
safety of others, able to maintain and improve the quality of the service. This shows
that the staff have failed to carry out the duty of care. However, the two females are
facing discrimination due to the staff not letting them stay in the same room as they
have been entitled to a double room, which shows that how their needs are not being
met. This can have a negative impact on the two same-sex couple as they would feel
like they are not being treated equally as the other service users because the staff
have not listened to and fulfilled their needs. As the legal obligation refers to
