PSY-402 Topic 2 DQ 2 Given your understanding of the functions of the different lobes of the brain, how might a person be affected by damage to the temporal lobe? Frontal lobe? Occipital lobe? Parietal lobe? Class, If a person’s temporal lobe is damaged the individual will have issues with audial and visual things because of the linguistic capabilities needed to discern logic and meaning from the audial and visual input (Frontal lobe, n.d.). Multi-modal processing areas of the brain area also affected (Gazzaniga, Ivry, & Mangun, 2013). If a person’s frontal lobe is damaged the more complex tasks such as carrying out tasks that require the use of planning and organization skills. As the center of “executive function” a person with frontal lobe issues will have trouble not only following through with planning for and accomplishing goals, but they will lack the motivation to carry them out (Gazzaniga, Ivry, & Mangun, 2013). If a person’s occipital lobe is damaged, then the main vision cortex is also damaged. This would create an issue with seeing, but especially with having an inability to process what you are seeing (Gazzaniga, Ivry, & Mangun, 2013). A person’s parietal lobe is linked to their sensory abilities including touch, pain, hot and cold and limb orientation as well as defining our special awareness and coordinated actions ((Gazzaniga, Ivry, & Mangun, 2013). Understanding these areas of the brain helps me to understand myself and I was able to grasp onto why sensory things such as taste and smell can be triggered by memories.
