Teaching Language Systems - introduction
, During the first lesson we discussed different ways to introduce the past simple
and the past perfect. The first ways was by using the PPP-approach and the
second one was TPR. TPR stands for Total Physical Responds, this approach
involves students. They are active and the activities meets their
‘belevingswereld’.
Our teacher brought a clock to school to show us how the total physical responds
works. She told one student to jump on his chair at 5 o’clock and another student
to walk to the board at 5:15. She moved the clock hands and the students did
what they had to do. After this she asked the other students to tell her what just
happened :
‘student one had jumped on his chair while student two walked to the
board.
TPR -> English Grammar through actions.
Chapter 1 – what is grammar?
All language in use can be analysed at each of these four levels: text, sentence,
word and sound. These are the forms that language takes.
