Oxidation is the process where a substance reacts and combines with oxygen. This
is one of the key ways in which chemical reactions occur. An example of this is iron;
when iron reacts with oxygen in the air, it creates iron oxide (also known as rust)

Oxidation is the process where a substance reacts or combines with oxygen.

, What is an example of oxidation?
An example of oxidation is rusting. This happens where iron reacts with oxygen to
create iron oxide which is rust.
The formulae for this is: Iron + Oxygen = Iron oxide (rust)

What happens when a substance has already bonded with oxygen?
No more oxygen can be bonded onto the substance because it has already bonded
with it and no more can be added on.

Why do some oxidized substances change in mass?
Because as oxygen is bonded with it, the mass of it changes and increases as it
becomes heavier.

Explain why bubbles are formed when carbon dioxide reacts with limewater

Carbon dioxide reacts with calcium hydroxide solution to produce a white precipitate
of calcium carbonate. Limewater is a solution of calcium hydroxide. If carbon
dioxide is bubbled through limewater, the limewater turns milky or cloudy white.

As hydrogen gas is highly flammable, the result is a squeaky pop sound as the
hydrogen reacts with oxygen in the air in a small explosion and creates a squeaky
noise

What the difference between less reactive and more reactive metals when heated?

Most metals can react with oxygen to form a metal oxide. The most reactive metals
react violently when heated in oxygen, burning with a bright flame. The less reactive
metals react more slowly when heated in oxygen (combustion).

Metals will burn more brightly in pure oxygen than in air, since air is only about 20%
oxygen.

Combustion, also known as burning, is an example of oxidation. This is the process
where a substance burns with oxygen and releases energy.
