Honorifics is a title that is used before the person’s surname as a sign of respect.
Common honorifics are: Mr, Mrs, Ms and Miss
e.g., Mr Pienaar and Mrs Pienaar has a daughter, Miss Pienaar. Mrs Pienaar also has a
sister, Ms Jones.
Mr- Mister
Mrs- Mistress (married)
Ms-Mistress (one does not know if she is married or not)
Miss-Mistress (unmarried)
Other honorifics include:
Your Majesty (when addressing royalty)
Your honour (used in court)
Dr (doctor)
Prof (professor)
Sir

Euphemism is a softer, more delicate way of
saying something to someone.
Euphemisms are used for many reasons: direct
reference to something like death is avoided,
governments use it to cover up brutal deeds such as
torturing = magnified information retrieval. To cast
something in a better light.
Creative accounting= corruption
Tipsy= drunk
Passed away= died
Handyman’s delight= need a lot of work done
Culled of= murdered

Active and Passive
The verb changes, the object and subject change places so that the main focus
changes.

S- Jamie called for help when she saw the thief.
Q- Who called for help when they saw the thief?
Adding a question tag
S- James booked the hotel room for Saturday.
QT- James booked the hotel room for Saturday, didn’t he?
S- Reading the news does not give me joy.
QT- Reading the news does not give me joy, does it?
Direct and indirect speech
D- He said, “I eat breakfast”
I- He said that he ate breakfast.
