Nurses are not exception to this. Bias and prejudice can impact patient care and health disparities of those who are biased against. Bias can lead to intentional or nonintentional disparities in care (CCN, lesson 3, 2017). Acknowledging prejudice which is an explicit bias is an important step in addressing this issue. Bias against gender, race, sexual orientation and obesity are the most relevant among healthcare providers (Dunagan, Kimble, Gunby & Andrew, 2016).
