There are many differing factors for spatial variation in development levels within
the UK, for example, the North-South divide, with the South historically being
wealthier than its Northern counterpart.
One factor that has contributed to this is climate and topology. The South has
generally milder temperatures and average rainfall (e.g. London versus York)
making those regions more suited to arable farming. This would have resulted
with larger crop yields causing larger profits for the area; typically making the
region more food-secure and able to feed its population more easily, allowing the
