SPD 510 Module 5 Assignment
In order to have more meaningful perspectives and insights pertaining to Jake that can drive the IEP decision, as well as abiding by special education law, Jake’s parents and other educational professionals must be involved in the decision process. By law, there are several required stakeholders who must be present for IEP meetings and consequent placement decisions. The required stakeholders are, “parents [of the child who will be/is receiving special education services]...a regular education teacher...a special education teacher...a local school district representative…[and typically] a school psychologist,” or whoever is on-site who can interpret data (Exceptional Children’s Assistance Center, 2011). If all required stakeholders are not in attendance of the meeting and parents have not given permission for the meeting to continue, it is illegal to continue holding the meeting. Even if permission was obtained to hold the meeting without all required stakeholders, it may be worthwhile to err on the side of caution and schedule for a time when all stakeholders can attend
