Topic 5 DQ 1
Identify either a safety or quality improvement initiative related to improving
population health. How can translational research influence the development
of these initiatives? Include a specific example to support your response.
The National Strategy for Quality Improvement in Health Care was created in
2011 with a function to guide quality improvement efforts at the local, state, and
national levels through 3 fundamental aims and 6 initiative priorities (Berger,
2017). The ones I focused on mostly were focused towards population or public
health. The aim for this is improving the health of the population by supporting
proven interventions to address behavioral, social, and environmental determinants
of health. The initiative I chose was number 5 on the list and that stated its efforts
on working with communities to promote wide use of best practices to enable
health living. This initiative’s goal is to improve population health with promoting
and enhancing evidence-based interventions to increase the health of the public.
There are several examples that can be used for this such as the Let’s Move
initiative to combat sedentary lifestyles in children and adults alike and guiding
them to make better choices such as healthier meals in school. Another noticeable
improvement from 2008 to 2012 was vaccinations amongst adolescents with T-
DAP boosters, and Meningococcal vaccinations, despite anti-vaccine campaigns.
