Service Plan Brief for STI/STD Walk-In Clinic
Proposed Nursing Service Idea
The proposed nursing service idea is to open a walk-in clinic that will provide testing and
treatment for sexually transmitted infections within the community. This new service line will be
nurse-driven as the registered nurses will be heavily involved in specimen collections, lab draws,
billing, documenting, and medication administration and education. In the state of Missouri,
nurse practitioners must work under a collaborative practice agreement with a physician. As a
result, APRNs will be utilized alongside one supervisory physician. The APRN and physician
will be responsible for completeing exams, ordering STI testing and treatment, and providing
education. The leadership skills required for this service idea will focus on effective
communication, patient satisfaction, and high quality, patient-centered care.
