Choose a topic for your persuasive speech. Craft a Word document which addresses the following:
What is your topic?
The government should recognize same-sex marriage
Who is your target audience?
Legislators and congress.
Shard one examples of logos, pathos, and ethos you will include in the speech.
Pathos: Same-sex marriage laws affect most people in the United States. Whether it be a family
member or him/herself.
Ethos: There are many criminal cases that have been overturned due to an arrest being
unconstitutional pertaining to homosexual acts.
Logos: The United States of America is supposed to be a melting pot of all kinds of people, from
all kinds of places, and with all kinds of backgrounds. This country is supposed to be "the land of the
free, home of the brave," yet if you want to be free to express your love for someone you cannot
because they are not of the opposite sex.
What other persuasive techniques and/or appeals will you use?
I will explain the situation first and then try to appeal to the legislators’ emotion. I will try to use
testimonies from someone famous to get the legislators to think the way they do.
How will you avoid defective persuasion?
I will try to incorporate facts and not exaggerate.
Identify a minimum of three research materials you will use as supportive evidence. Include an APA
citation as well as a 3-5 sentence summary of each material.
