1. How did the simulated experience of George Palo’s case make you feel?
a. Made me feel sad about Mr. Palos losses of his wife and dog. He did have a
daughter that would visit but it seemed like he needed company around him
more.
2. Reflecting on George Palo’s case, were there any actions you would do differently? If
so, what were these actions and why?
a. I would have recognized Mr. Palos responses and responded in a more
therapeutic what. I also would have asked for persission to have his daughter in
the same space during discussion.
3. What priority problem(s) did you identify for George Palo?
a. George Palo was expressing signs and symptoms of dementia and depression.
George also had a shotgun on the wall which raised the risk for self harm or
injury to others.
4. Discuss the benefits of pet therapy for individuals with minor neurocognitive decline
and how it could benefit George Palo.
a. Pet therapy could provide Mr. Palo with positive stimulus and healthy
interactions as well as a large foundation to build a routine.
5. What other individuals in addition to the primary care team should be involved in
George Palo’s case?
a. George’s daughter/family, physician, nursing manager, friends or roommate at
the nursing home, members of group therapy.
