What is a Tense?
A tense tells us when an action happens. It shows whether the action takes
place now, in the past, or in the future.
English has 12 tenses, divided into 3 main groups:
i.Present Tenses
ii.Past Tenses
iii.Future Tenses
1. Present Indefinite Tense (Simple Present)
Use:
i..Daily routine
ii.Habits
iii.Facts
iv.Universal truths
Structure:
Subject + Verb (1st form) + Object
Examples:
i.I go to college every day.
ii.The sun rises in the east.
Signal Words:
Always, usually, often, every day, sometimes.
2. Present Continuous Tense
Use:
i.Actions happening right now.
Structure:
Subject + am/is/are + Verb + ing
Examples:
i.She is reading a book.
ii.They are playing football.
