, Exercise 1
1. In Part 1, how long are each of your peptide chains (how many amino
acids are present)?
In part 1 , each peptide chain has 13 amino acids.
2. In Part 1, what differences exist between your two transcripts? What
about your translated product?
In part 1 there are no differences between the two transcriptions or the translated
products
3. Hb A represents a section of the 626 base normal hemoglobin beta mRNA
sequence. Hb S is from the sickle cell hemoglobin. Is the mutation found in
sickle cell hemoglobin a point mutation or a frameshift mutation?
The mutation found in sickle cell hemoglobin is a point mutation as it has a substitution
of an A to a T.
4. Does the sickle cell mutation result in a missense mutation, silent
mutation or nonsense mutation? Why?
The sickle cell mutation results in a missense mutation because it is caused by a
substitution an amino acid is still inputted leading to a change in the original protein
structure.
