FIRST AID DERMATOLOGY QUESTIONS WITH DETAILED VERIFIED
AND 100% ACCURATE ANSWERS ALREADY GRADED A+

Describing lesions

-macule

-patch

-papules

-plaque

-vesicle

-bulla - (ANSWER)macule= flat lesion with a well circumscribed change in skin color < 1 cm

patch= macule > 1 cm

papules= papule > 1 cm

plaque= Papules > 1 cm

vesicle= small fluid containing blister < 1 cm

bulla= large fluid-containing blister > 1 cm

Describing lesions continued

-cyst

-pustule

-wheal

-scale

-crust

-ulcer

-lichenifation - (ANSWER)cyst: epithelium lined sac containing fluid

,FIRST AID DERMATOLOGY QUESTIONS WITH DETAILED VERIFIED
AND 100% ACCURATE ANSWERS ALREADY GRADED A+

pustule: vesicle containing pus

wheal: transient smooth papule or plaque

scale: flaking off of stratum corneum

crust: exudate of dried serum, blood, pus

ulcer: a deep depression resulting from destrction of the epidermis and upper dermis

lichenification: hypertorphy and thickening of the epidermis with acentuation of normal skin markings

The epidermis

-composed of how many layers

-what are the layers

-are there blood vesseles

-what is the major cell type? - (ANSWER)composed of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium.
composed of four or five layers depending on the area of the body.

-it does not contain blood vessles

-stratum cornum

-stratum lucidum (only on palms and soles)

-stratum granulosum

-statum spinosum

-stratum basale

,FIRST AID DERMATOLOGY QUESTIONS WITH DETAILED VERIFIED
AND 100% ACCURATE ANSWERS ALREADY GRADED A+

Composed of keratinocyts

-manufactures and stores keratin which is a fibrous protien that gives hair, skin, and nails their hardness.

Stratum basale

-attaches what?

-produces what type of keratin? this is mutated in what disease

-What is special about this layer

-What is the role of Merkel cells?

-what are melanocytes? - (ANSWER)aka stratum germinativum

-deepst layer that attaches to the basement membrane and epidermis

-expresses keratins 5 and 14 (which are mutated in epidermallysis bullousis simplex)

a basal cell is a cuboidal shaped stem cell that is a precursor of the keratinocyte. all of the keratinocytes
aer produced from this single layer of cells which are constantly going through mitosis to produce new
cells.

Merkel cell, which functions as a receptor and is resonsible for stimulating sensory nerves that the brian
perceives as tough (especially in the hands and feet)

Melanocyte, a cell that produces the pigment melanin gives hair and skin its color, and also helps protect
the living cells of the epidemis from ultraviolet radiation damage

Stratum spinosum

-how many layers

-produces what forms of keratin, this is mutated in what?

-contains what kind of connections?

, FIRST AID DERMATOLOGY QUESTIONS WITH DETAILED VERIFIED
AND 100% ACCURATE ANSWERS ALREADY GRADED A+

-What immunologic cell can be found in this layer? what is this cell? - (ANSWER)contains desmosomes
(spiny appearing) for conneciton. composed of 8-10 layers of keratinocytes, formed as a result of cell
division in the stratum basale.

-expresses keratins 1 and 10 (which are muted in epidermallitic hyperkeratosis)

interspersed among the kerativnocytes of this layer is a type of dendritic cell called the langerhans cell,
which functions as a macrophage by engulfing bacteria, foreing particles, and damaged cells

keratinocytesi n the stratum spinosum begin the synthesis of keratin and release a water repelling
glycolipid that helps prevent water loss form the body.

Stratum granulosum

-how many layers thick?

-what is special about this layer?

-this layer thickens in what disease? - (ANSWER)3-5 layers thick

become flatter , their cell membranes thiken, and they generate large amounts of keratin and
keratohyalin, which accumulates as lamellar granules within the cells. These two proteins make up the
bulk of the keratinocyte mass in the stratum granulosum and give the layer its grainy appearance. the
nuclei and other cell organelles disintegrate as the cells die, leaving behind the kerativn, keratohyalin,
and cell membranes that will form the stratum lucidum, the stratum corneum, and the accessory
structures of the hair and nails

-thickens in lichen planus

Stratum lucidum

-found where

-describe their appearance - (ANSWER)this thin layer of cells is found only in the thick skin of the palsm,
soles, and digits. the keratinocytes that compose the tratum lucidum are dead and flattened. these cells
are densely packed with eleidn, a clear protein rich in lipids, derived from keratohyalin, which gives these
cells their transparent appearance and provides a barrier to water
