What is the difference between a gap junction and a channel protein? (Hint: think about location and
overall function) - correct ans:Gap junctions are junctions that provide communication between cells,

,allowing for ions and small molecules to pass through. This low resistance transfer of molecules through
the cells allows for syncing of electrical and mechanical output. Gap junctions are found between cells
and are a physical gap between that allows for things of small girth to flow between them.

Channel proteins, however, are essential for things like a phospholipid bilayer where there is a pressure
gradient and molecules cannot flow naturally. These channels, found along the plasma membrane are
able to push molecules and proteins through at a controlled rate. A Na+/K+ pump is an example, where
certain molecules flow in interchanging directions.

Both allow ions and small molecules to pass through by diffusion. However, gap junctions are embedded
within in the plasma membranes of two neighboring cells. The alignment and connection of the gap
junctions between the neighboring cells allows the passage of ions and small molecules directly from
one cell into another.

The above image was found in a medical chart marking the area of the patient's injury . Using proper
anatomical terminology where is the injury located (blue arrow indicates injury area)? BE AS SPECIFIC AS
POSSIBLE. - correct ans:The above injury is an anterior superficial/external injury. This patient has been
wounded on the right side of the sagittal plane past the midline, as well as above the midline on the
transverse plane. This injury appears far superior, and anterior, as well as laterally placed. This injury
likewise is proximal the neck, located on an upper limb. This injury also presents itself on the anterior
side of the frontal plane and the far superior side of the transverse plane. Right Acromial shoulder.

In lecture we discussed several potential outcomes that can result if the usual negative feedback
mechanisms are overwhelmed. Explain what might occur if negative feedback mechanisms become
overwhelmed. You may use a specific system if that aids in your explanation. - correct ans:If negative
feedback becomes overwhelmed to the point that the body can not calmly readjust, then the body goes
into overdrive and the positive feedback loop kicks in and worsens the condition. This typically leads to
heart failure or failure of an organ system that relies on the use of homeostatic regulation. Considering
how Negative feedback regulates the body in a way that returns functions to normal, when the body is
overwhelmed and cannot return to normal, it assumes that something abnormal is occurring. Positive
feedback is when the body is undergoing an abnormal situation and needs to expel or amplify a situation
to return to normal. In this case, if the body is too overwhelmed, then the loop will skip to positive
feedback and amplify the situation, causing the body to go into overdrive. This can easily occur when the
negative feedback loop is exhausted and stressed.

Negative feedback also hurts your yelp profile and makes job satisfaction infinitely less--very sad.

,Homeostatic imbalances increase our risk for disease processes and produce the changes we associate
with aging. In addition if negative feedback mechanisms become overwhelmed many times positive
feedback mechanisms take over which can lead to devastating consequences.
