Symmetric and Asymmetric Systems
Introduction
In todays age where communication and storing data online have become aspects of
everyday life cryptography plays a vital role, in safeguarding the privacy, integrity and
authenticity of information. Cryptography involves the art and science of encoding and decoding
data to prevent access. “The primary aim of cryptographic methods to ensure confidentiality is to
scramble a text or other data in such a way that only the desired receiver can unscramble it again
and thus read the original text or data,” (Sharp, 2023). There are two types of systems; symmetric
and asymmetric. These systems vary in how they operate their speed, efficiency and practical
applications each presenting its benefits and challenges.
This essay offers an in depth comparison between asymmetric systems examining their
techniques, operations, speed capabilities uses cases and providing examples. Furthermore it
delves into a perspective influenced by teachings to explore how ethical considerations can shape
the use of cryptography. By exploring this aspect we can see how these technical systems align
with principles such, as integrity, trustworthiness and wisdom as outlined in teachings.
Symmetric Systems
Among the encryption methods available today symmetric cryptographic systems stand
out as one of the commonly used approaches. Also known as private key, it states that both the
sender and the receiver recipient must have a single key in order to encrypt or decrypt the
message (Kikani et al., 2021). This implies that both the sender and receiver must share this key
for communication. The effectiveness of this system heavily relies on maintaining the secrecy
and secure distribution of this key.
