Adult-Gerontology Assessment Clinical
Hi, I’m Cheryl Gordon, your clinical professor for the next 3 weeks in the NURS 5120
Adult-Gerontology Assessment Clinical. I’ve been an online assistant clinical
professor in this course since 2017.
I’m a full-time FNP for a local national defense contractor, and prior to that
practiced emergency medicine at a metro county hospital for 10+ years. My
nursing background is emergency medicine for 13+ years.
What will I be doing for you?
I’ll grade your videos and SOAP notes, as well as your peer reviews and the geriatric scenario. I’ll comment
and make suggestions on the first two modules, which should be applied to your module 3 video and SOAP
submissions.
My office hour each week is Tuesday from 2-3 p.m., Central time. You’re welcome to come and go to ask
questions, etc.
What should you get from this course?
This course will help you focus on your new role of medical provider as opposed to registered nurse. This
course is the foundation on which you build your future practice.
2 Important hints for success:
1. The SOAP note is the framework of every patient encounter – treat the SOAP as
the PATIENT CHART – it’s concise, succinct, professional, and easy to read. If you
look at the SOAP note form, it looks like a patient chart!
2. *Follow the grading RUBRICS exactly.
I have attached my NP Students’ Guide to PASSING Assessment Clinical which includes:
1. SOAP note instructions in the SOAP note form – tells you exactly what is expected in each section
of the SOAP note.
2. Sample SOAP notes for each module – so that you know how each SOAP should look.
3. A script for your Module 3 video – which is exactly what you should say and do for each body
system.
4. A note card of the module 3 physical exam for practice on the go
If you have questions or concerns at any point, please text or email me. Ask all questions before an assignment
is due. I try to respond to emails within 24 hours. Please keep in mind, however, that I do work full time.
Respectfully,
Cheryl Gordon, FNP-BC
