Critical listening is a type of listening that is usually not revealed, since it involves
analysis, critical thinking and ruling whereas informational listening centers on the ability of an
individual to recognize speaker's message. Critical listening is about analyzing opinion and

Critical listening can be done after informational listening.

a) Literacy Skills
Literacy is the capability to understand, communicate and work out using printed and written
materials associated with varying contexts.
b) Oracy Skills
Oracy is the ability to have wide range of speaking and listening skills, behaviours and language
necessary for effective communication and collaboration.

a) Explain in two sentences why you have to engage your schematic knowledge during the
pre-reading stage (2)
(a) They provide with necessary background to organize activity and to comprehend the
material. Helps to think about what they already know about a given topic .
b) Nunan (2011:23) identifies six stages of the listening process. Explain in your own words,
your understanding of:
i) Hearing (first stage) (2)
Is when l understanding or comprehension the shared meaning from the source. This is when l
determines the context and meanings of the words I hears.
(ii) Remembering (fourth stage) (2)
Remembering occurs when I categorizes and retains the information I gathered from the speaker
for future access. This happens both during and after the speaker's delivery.
