P2: Explain the potential effects of five different life factors on the
development of an individual
An individual goes through different life stages therefore there are five different life factors that influence
the development of a person. The five different life factors are:

 Genetic
 Biological
 Environmental
 Socioeconomic
 Lifestyle

The first example I will be referring to while explaining these life
events will be a child aged between 3 and 9 years old and the second example will be for an adult between
19 and 45.

Childhood:
This life stage goes from age 3 to age 9 and many events take place during this stage.
For instance, an only child named Jay aged 8 years old is developing while going through the different life
factors which will affect his growth.
Genetically Jay inherited cystic fibrosis from his mother which is a disease that affects the lungs and makes
breathing difficult because of the formed mucus in the lungs. This illness symptoms start around Jay’s life
stage and shortens life expectancy even though there are treatments that can help with reducing the
issues. He also suffers from asthma which is a lung problem that causes breathing problems like cystic
fibrosis. Both these disorders make Jay breathing hard.
Cystic fibrosis negatively affects his development because he needs extra energy to be able to breath
efficiently and he is physically smaller than other children his same age as a result of growth delay.
Jay also tends to have a hard time with asthma which can influence his emotional development since it can
lead to anxiety and depression other than high stress. This disorder will also limit Jay’s social and physical
activity with other children for safety reasons centred on the disorders and life stage. Jay also loves playing
with Legos and building bricks, as a future career he wants to do construction however because of his
disorders and the dust that comes with the job he won’t be able to do it.
Biologically Jay developed foetal alcohol syndrome because the mum lost her dad during the pregnancy
which led to her drinking alcohol while being pregnant with her child.
This syndrome affects his physical development like growth, movement and balance making it hard for Jay
to actively participate in activities with older children. He also has a difficult time in school because one of
the condition's symptoms are learning difficulties and issues with attention and concentration. This affects
his intellectual development since he needs constant extra support to meet his needs especially at his life
stage through different approaches like EHCP plan.
Environment wise since Jay suffers from different disorders and has a delayed development he is affected
by bullying and family dysfunction.
The bullying comes from his peers at school because Jay suffers from learning disabilities which makes it
difficult for him to complete simple tasks. Bullying affects the child emotional and social development. Most
children make fun of him and avoid doing activities with Jay since they feel he won’t understand the games
making him feel extremely sad and left out. This can lead to social anxiety in the long run since he will be
afraid of being judged by other people.
Going home he would want to communicate and spend time with his family however Jay’s family is
dysfunctional.
