ASSIGNMENT 2
DUE DATE: 26 JUNE 2026
How to Help Learners Succeed in Life Orientation Using an Asset-Based
Approach and a Personal Strengths Approach
At Matseleng Secondary School, we face challenges such as limited textbooks,
overcrowded classrooms, and very few technological tools, but we are fortunate to have
a strong and diverse community that is rich in human skills, cultural traditions, and
informal support networks. To help our learners do well in Life Orientation, we can use
two powerful approaches that work together, namely an asset-based approach, which
focuses on using the good things already present in our community, and a personal
strengths approach, which focuses on building each learner's confidence and belief in
their own abilities, as explained in the study guide
(TMS3722 Study Guide, 2020, p. 87).
1. Asset-Based Approach: Using the Strengths of Our Community
This approach encourages us to look at what we have rather than what we lack, and it
reminds us that our community has many valuable resources that can support teaching
and learninq in meaninqful wavs.
