NR 443 WEEK 4 DISCUSSION WITH ANSWERS, COMMUNITY SETTINGS 1. For this graded discussion, first, identify and describe a community health setting that interests you. Do not focus on forensic nursing for this discussion because your Week 4 Assignment is focused on forensic nursing. For this weeks graded discussion, I decided on school nursing. This is the second setting I’ve worked in after graduating nursing school. I started working with an agency that placed me to work 1:1 with a second grader who has cerebral palsy and respiratory issues. On days the child wouldn’t go to school I ended up working with one district near my home subbing for the school nurse. I loved working with those kids from pre-k through eighth grade. “School nursing is a specialized practice of nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and lifelong achievement and health of students. Keeping children healthy, safe, in school, and ready to learn should be a top priority for both healthcare and educational systems” (NASN, 2016). Eventually I would love to dedicate my time to being a school nurse once I graduate with my BSN.
