ENT 202 Exam 3 Introduction to Entomology||Verified
Exam!!!||, 2026/2027 -Question Entomological
Competency Examination||Newest Exam!!!

Define climate. What are its components? - Answer-the
longterm, prevailing weather conditions in a particular
area. The major components of climate are temperature,
precipitation, sunlight, and wind.

What is global warning? - Answer-- Global warming or
climate change is the gradual increase of the average
temperature of the Earth
- The average temperature of the Earth's surface is around
59 ̊F or 13 ̊C.
- Greenhouse Gases in the atmosphere hold in heat
Without these gases, the Earth's surface temperature
would drop to around 0 ̊F.
- Earth is naturally insulated by these heat-trapping,
greenhouse gases
- a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the
earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse
effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide,
chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.

What good things do greenhouse gasses do? What would
happen without them? - Answer--Greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere hold in heat
-Without these gases, the Earth's surface temperature
would drop to around 0 degrees F.
- without them it was a really cold place

What are the bad things greenhouse gases do when there
are to much of them? - Answer-- Earth can heat up and
becomes non healthy levels, makes it harder for
organisms to live the way they typically live
- increasing temp is not good
- trap in all thermal rays
- greenhouse gases help insulate earth and when there
are to many up them it is bad

What are the main greenhouse gases? - Answer-water
vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous gas,
Chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs)

Water Vapor - Answer-The most abundant greenhouse
gas (GHG), however because it spends just a short time in

the atmosphere, and humans have a very little impact on
the amount of water in the atmosphere, it is not
considered the most important GHG

Carbon Dioxide - Answer-- Carbon dioxide(CO2).Is
actually only a small part of the atmosphere, but one of the
most important GHGs. CO2 is released naturally into the
atmosphere through volcanic eruptions and animal
respiration but it is also released through human activities
such as deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels for
energy. CO2 also spends along time in the atmosphere
increasing its impact. Since the industrial revolution
humans have increased atmospheric CO2 concentration
by30%..
- Accounts for 80% of greenhouse gases emissions
- Enters atmosphere by 1.Carbon cycle 2.Burning fossil
fuels 3.Deforestation 4.Cement production

Methane - Answer-- The second most important GHG, is
produced both naturally and through human activities. The
most significant sources of Methane come from the
decomposition of organic matter e.g. in landfills and in
agriculture. Another large source is from the digestion of
ruminants(cows, goats etc).Methane is a stronger GHG

than CO2 because it can absorb more heat, however it is
much less abundant in the atmosphere.
- A gas that is emitted from the following sources: Volcanic
activity, Natural gas fields, Solid waste landfills Byproduct
of biomass, One of the ingredients found in a burp!
- The early atmosphere of the Earth had 1000x more
methane that what is has now and therefore, no life
existed on the planet.
- Oxygen was not produced until photosynthetic bacteria
evolved at a later time.

Nitrous Gas - Answer-- A very powerful greenhouse gas
which is heavily produced in the agriculture sector,
specifically in the production and use of organic
fertilizers. It is also produced when burning fossil fuels.
-A gas that is emitted from the following sources: Burning
fossil fuels, Use of fertilizers, Burning biomass, Can be
used as a mild anesthetic for minor surgeries, Also known
as laughing gas!!

Chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs) - Answer-- These man-made
compounds were produced for industrial use, mainly in
refrigerants and air conditioners. They are now regulated
