a. Pathophysiology-When the intraocular pressure increases it leads
to compression of the retinal blood vessels and photoreceptors
and their nerve fibers resulting in hypoxemia and death of the
tissue and loss of vision.

C. Cataracts
a. Signs/Symptoms-Lens opacity, blurred vision, decreased color
perception, foggy vision, double vision, problems with ADLS,
without surgical intervention blindness follows, affects reading and
driving.
b. Administering eye drop-antibiotic and steroid ointment are
placed in the eye immediately post-op.
c. Post-surgery care
i. Abnormal signs/symptoms-uncontrolled pain
may=hemorrhage especially is nausea and vomiting
accompanies pain.
ii. Client education-wear dark glasses and avoid bright sunlight
until pupils respond to light. itching is normal. understand the
importance of follow up appointments. discomfort may be
managed with tylenol but aspirin needs to be
avoided(affects blood clotting).
