Aantekeningen Lecture 2
Goals:
- Define and explain the difference between the dimensional model and the
categorical model of Emotions (Recap)
- Explain research on the facial expression s of pain:
- How does it look like?
- What results show that facial expressions of pain are special (compared to other
expressions)?
- Explain and differentiate the intra- and inter-personal function of the facial
expression of pain
, What are emotions?
2 dimensions:
1) Valence
2) Arousal
4 categories:
1) Anger
2) Fear
3) Sadness
4) Joy
Love includes a lot of emotions, but is not an emotion itself.
Defintion: short-term reactions to salient events on three levels (behavioral,
phsyiological, subjective), which induce approach or avoidance behavior and are
associated with different levels of arousal.
Dimensional Theory:
Emotions are action dispositions, organized along 2 motivational dimensions
- Valence: pleasant- approach VS. unpleasant-avoidance
- Arousal: activation/ intensity of activation of motivational system
Arousal Measures: Self-Asessment Manikin (SAM, Lang, 1989).
