Give this one a try later!

W- The studies F&H used were small making it unrepresentative. For
example, Hardy et al (1994) used 8 crown green bowlers making it hard to
generalise their support fot the cathastrophe model

Explain cognitive and somatic anxiety

Martens (1990) argue that state anxiety contains two parts that interact with
each other to reduce the standard of performance.

Cognitive Anxiety (cog A-state) is the mental component characterised by
negative expectations of success and negative self-evaluation

, Somatic Anxiety (som A-state) is the physical response that comes from
arousal e.g., sweaty palms or rapid heart rate.

As the arosual increases so will they performance. However it effects
beginners and experts differently. At any time, the dominant response is the
response that comes lost easily and quickly.

For experts, when arousal is high, they can still produce a well-learned skill
accurately.
For beginners, the skill is not so well- learned, so their dominant response
is less accurate or correct.

Weightlifting
1. Eyes closed visualising one point of the lift in the call area
2. Enter platform one called, going through a very specific checklist to
make lifter feel comfortable including chalk hands, kicks shoes, feel grip
and feel positions
3. Execute lift with empty mind
4. If lift was good for taking that feeling and try to achieve again

Fazey and Hardy's Catastrophe Theory (1988) debates: ethical considerations

Give this one a try later!

, Measurements of anxiety using inventories is an ethical way of gathering
data as it allows for informed consent, right to withdraw and debriefing

Fazey and Hardy's Catastrophe Theory (1988) debates: psychology as a science

Give this one a try later!

The catastrophe model makes testable predictions about arousal- anxiety-
performance relationship. This supports psychology as a science as it
adopts the empirical approach through testing hypotheses

Fazey and Hardy's Catastrophe Theory (1988) evaluation: Ethnocentrism

Give this one a try later!

W- It may lead to judgements about that arosual-performance relationship
that only apply to competitive sport in the west. For example, Hardy et al's
(1994) results on hythesis on the green bowlers maybe explained using
competititve idivdiualist nature of Western sport meaning hythesis may not
occur in other countries.
