The purpose of this study is to understand the effects of education and employment
programming on recidivism among offenders released from the Indiana Department of
Corrections over a period of five years.

Setting / Sample characteristics
The sample includes 6561 criminal offenders who were released from prisons in the Indiana
Department of Corrections into five metropolitan counties between 2005-2009. All released
offenders were juveniles more young adults. Approximately 60% of offenders were released in
Marion County, the largest city of which is Indianapolis. Four members were then followed
over a period of five years to identify the prevalence of recidivism.
