Answer four of the following questions. Each answer will be worth 25 points each. Students may not
receive extra credit for answering more than four questions.
Answers must be in essay form and must be at least 250 words for each question answered (250 x 4 =
1,000 words minimum for the total exam). Pages must be double spaced with a 1” margin on all
sides. Font must be either Times New Roman or Arial.
Each answer must be numbered.
Students may use their textbook and the resources provided in D2L to answer each question but no
other sources are allowed. Students must put the information into their own words when answering
the questions.
Students do not need to include citations or a Reference page.
Students should refer to the Essay Rubric under the Content tab in D2L for exact grading criteria.
Completed essays must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on the day they are due to the appropriate folder in
D2L. Students may always complete and turn in essays early, but ten points will be deducted
per day from essays which are turned in past the due date. It is the student’s responsibility to
make sure their attachment submits successfully.

4. Discuss the presidency of Andrew Jackson. What were some of his successes and failures as
president? How does history remember him/what is his legacy? In your opinion, is that a fair
assessment? Why or why not?
5. Discuss the similarities and the differences between the North and the South in the period from 1830
to 1860. How were lives similar and different for both blacks and whites in each region?
6. Describe the different social and religious changes that took place in the early to mid 1800’s in the
United States. In your opinion, what was the overall impact on the United States?
