from ASHA

the general public
How long does the term last - ANSWER5 years and no more than 2 terms
How much does a committee member receive in compensation? -
ANSWER$25 for each day of actual service in attending meetings and will also
be reimbursed for necessary travel expenses as long as it doesn't exceed
$1000
What does the committee do - ANSWERAscertain the facts concerning the
dispensing and sale of hearing aids, for the purpose of determining the need
for and desirability of rules and regulations to promote the health, safety, and
welfare of the public and to effectuate the purposes of this act and to aid the
committee in the performance of its powers and duties here under. They shall
make and promulgate rules and regulations to the Administrative Procedures
Act
Course of instruction - ANSWERThe committee may recommend the
preparation and administration by the state department of education,
department of higher education or public institutions concerned with the
fitting and selection of hearing aids. They may require licensees to complete a
course of instruction as a condition of licensure. They shall publish and
distribute information regarding examination requirement and may require
examination or attendant of courses as a stipulation of licensure
, Application of licensure - ANSWERShall file with the secretary of the
committee stating that he/she is a good moral character, more than 18 years
old, has received training, and has had experience in the practice and fitting
of hearing aids
What is the fee for submitting an application and taking the examination -
ANSWER$20
The examination consists of - ANSWER1. Tests of knowledge in the following
areas:
- basic physics of sound
- the human hearing mechanism
- structure and function of hearing aids
2. Tests of proficiency in the following techniques
- pure tone audiometer including air conduction testing and bone conduction
testing
- speech testing with live voice or recorded
- effective masking
- recording and evaluation of audiogram a and speech audiometry to
determine hearing aid candidacy
- selection and adaptation of hearing aids and testing of hearing aids
- taking earmold impressions
- other skills as may be required for the fitting of hearing aids
Tests under this section shall not include questions requiring a medical or
surgical education
