Learning organizations are skilled at main activities: systematic problem solving, experimentation
with new approaches, learning from their own experience and past history, learning from the
experiences and best practices of others, and transferring knowledge quickly and efficiently
throughout the organization.

The mechanisms to be implemented to assist an organisation to become a learning organisation
are:

Leadership commitment to learning

There must be a commitment by both leaders and employees to learning as an organisation,
which means change becomes inevitable.

As per case study, Garry Ridge, the company’s CEO, is intensely committed to learning, and
requires all employees to take the pledge: I am responsible for taking action, asking questions,
getting answers, and making decisions. I will not wait for someone to tell me. If I need to know, I am
responsible for asking. I have no right to be offended that I did not “get this sooner.” If I am doing
something others should know about, I am responsible for telling them.”

Also, Publix, also encouraged to work in the company’s various divisions to learn new skills,
information, and aspects of the business.

This shows leadership leading the way to learning.

Building shared visions

Publix, shared their vision and values to its employees through collaboration and communication
among the company’s core values, and employees are supported in pursuing career goals and
reaching out to colleagues for assistance.

This shows the Publix commitment to building share visions between both the leadership and
employees to that they will start to walk the talk, in a clear defined vision.

Encouraging diversity

The values of Google encourage diversity in its talent search and flexibility of its working hours, mainly
focusing on productivity as employees improve themselves.
