Community Health Assessment
Trinity Community Hospital (TCH) recently conducted a community health needs
assessment. The purpose of this assessment is to determine healthcare services that were
rendered in the hospital's region and estimate services that will be needed in the future due to the
growing population. The assessment is designed to provide crucial data for strategically
allocating resources, developing targeted health programs, fostering community collaboration,
ensuring IRS compliance, and improving the overall health of the population by identifying
specific needs and gaps in services, leading to better patient outcomes and stronger community
ties. The focused assessment evaluated services in orthopedics, oncology, and cardiovascular
care. TCH collected data from multiple sources and developed a health needs summary plan to
evaluate major risk factors, including demand, and existing resources to address community
healthcare needs.
A1. Major Risk Factors Identified
The assessment indicated that the population aged 65 and above is expected to increase
by 15% over the next five years. The expected growth in the aging population creates demand
for oncology services in the primary service area. Approximately 50% of men and 33% of
women are expected to have cancer at least once in their lifetime. Over 5 years, new cases of
cancer are expected to grow by 34%.
The assessment also revealed that the demand for orthopedic services is expected to grow
over the next five years. The assessment indicated that overall orthopedic cases are projected to
increase by 46%. Inpatient spine and joint procedures are predicted to increase by 30%.
However, the most significant growth is in outpatient spine and joint procedures, which are
estimated to increase by 350% over the next 5 years.
