WGU D194 Task 2 – IT Leadership
Foundations Complete Submission Guide
(2026)
A. Explain the outcomes of the meeting
According to the agenda items, the meeting was supposed to provide a status update, review a
report on system usage, and then select a team to be the first to pilot an upgrade rollout. The
status update was not able to be provided because the implementation team lead was not there,
and a pilot team was not selected due to disagreements between the two potential candidates.
The primary conflict that arose was due to the two managers not agreeing on whether a decision
should be made that day, based on the data provided. Mei’s concern that the information Li
provided was not accurate due to multiple team members being out of the office following a
difficult project. Mei is also concerned that in addition to the time frame selected for the data,
there were outside factors that may inaccurately skew her team’s numbers. Specifically, that her
team has to work with such tight deadlines on outdated equipment, which forces her employees
to use their personal equipment to reach deadlines. They’re also less likely to submit IT tickets
due to this. Diego felt that there was enough information provided, and that the information
provided was proof that his team should be selected for the pilot.
Deigo’s response to the conflict was to provide his opinion on why he felt justified in being the
piloting team. He was dismissive of Mei’s concerns about fairness and prioritized rolling out the
project as quickly as possible. Mei’s response to this conflict was to be clear that she felt the
decision should be fair, and with the factors impacting the data she felt that it wasn’t. Mei was
firm in advocating for her employees. Li’s response to this conflict was to offer to run their data
again, and proactively offered to do additional work to ensure their data was as accurate as
possible. Kamal expressed his dissatisfaction with delaying the project any further but agreed to
hold off another week to allow Li to rerun their data with new parameters.

B. Evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies demonstrated in the meeting
Mei’s communication was based on firmness and focused on making informed decisions with
complete data. Deigo’s strategy was based on not wanting to delay an already late project any
further. While Mei’s strategy did hinder the decision-making for the pilot program, it is
important to ensure decisions are well-informed based on full and accurate data.
C. Identify the informal leader of the meeting and analyze their approach to leadership
Kamal was the informal leader of the meeting. He was the one who opened the call, described
the meeting’s purpose, and provided the update. He was also the one who solidified the decision
to wait for new data and close the call. He was able to redirect the conversation when necessary
and showcased excellent active listening skills. He did not interject or attempt to resolve the
conflict between the two managers, but rather allowed them to have their own discussion about it
and then made his own decision.
D. Explain the overall interpersonal dynamics of the team
The meeting showed a conflict between two managers: Diego and Mei. The dynamic between
Diego and Mei comes across as two members of leadership who are both trying to advocate for
their teams. However, Diego comes off a bit passive aggressive by first thanking Kamal, and
then complaining about how long the delays are taking. Diego is also dismissive of Mei’s
concerns, contributing to the conflict. He felt that the data clearly showed his team should be
chosen, regardless of the concerns about accurate data. Ultimately, he doesn’t provide strong
enough points as to why the decision should be made that day, which contributed to the
meeting’s outcome.
