101.2 Scope: This code shall apply to the erection, installation,
alteration, repair, relocation, replacement addition to,
use, or maintenance of plumbing systems within it's
jurisdiction.
101.3 Purpose: The requirements contained in "this code" are
minimum requirements. Any installation not meeting
these minimum requirements could result in sickness
and death. Improperly installed plumbing systems
could result in a buildings structural integrity,
accompanying in risk of injury and needless costly
repair.
101.4 Unconstitutional: It is possible that under the scrutiny of the courts, a
portion of the code might be found to be
unconstitutional, if that were to happen the rest of
the code would remain in force and valid.
, 101.5 Validity: If it can be proven legally that a provision code does
not apply to a certain situation or individual, than that
decision would have not affect on the validity of the
code for other situations or individuals.
102.0 Conflict between codes: Should a user feel there is a conflict between "this
code" and UMC, the UPC should be followed but still
advisable to contact AHJ for guidance or contact
IAPMO.
102.1 Existing Installation: There may be many changes in the code from code
cycle to code cycle and it is not the intent of any
jurisdiction to require existing buildings to continually
meet the requirements of the newly adopted edition
of the code.
102.2 Existing Installation (3 1.) The existing system must have been properly
conditions): installed according to the code in effect at the time
of installations.
2.) The system must have been properly maintained
according to the code in effect when periodic
maintenance was performed.
3.) The system must not be dangerous, unsafe,
insanitary, or a nuisance and menace to life, health, or
property.
EX.) if it can be proved that any or all of the above
provisions were not met, the AHJ is justified in
requiring that system to be brought up to the new
edition of the code.
