CRJ320 ASSIGNMENT 2
PART I
The reasonableness of an act of force is determined by the circumstances surrounding it. When
determining whether the use of force was reasonable, the perspective of a good officer must be
used. In deciding the force necessary to affect a seizure, police officers must balance the
suspect's liberty against the government's interest. The severity of a crime is often considered
when deciding whether to arrest or detain someone. The reasonableness of a threat depends on
the facts and circumstances. Police officers must consider the severity of the crime, whether it
poses an imminent threat to public safety, and other factors when deciding whether to use force
to make an arrest. Active resistance may also pose a threat, but reacting immediately is not
always necessary.
The Department of Justice has an evident appreciation for human life, so it is simple: cops
should only use the least force required to keep themselves safe and take control of a situation as
quickly as possible, ensuring nobody else is in danger. Law enforcement and correctional
officers of the Department of Justice are expected only to use deadly force when necessary - they
must always maintain reasonableness and reserve physical force for when it is in line with the
law. When all else fails, if push comes to shove, law enforcement personnel may have to rely on
physical force to restore order to the neighborhood.

PART II
Free speech is a fundamental right that is key to any healthy democracy and constitutionally
protected - yet it often comes into conflict with the rights of others or the need to maintain public
order. So, protecting our right to express ourselves freely is a big deal! Unfortunately, there can
sometimes be clashes between individual freedom of expression and other people's rights.
Additionally, certain kinds of self-expression can potentially throw off the power balance,
resulting in civil unrest, economic instability, and crime.
PART III
Hate speech, while a form of free speech, can be harmful to others because it promotes
intolerance and hatred. The rights of individuals must be weighed against the public good.
