weakness.
• A strength of this collaboration is that
all of the professionals were open
minded and empathetic, as well as
the parents in the simulation were
open minded and complying. Open
and honest communication is vital to
creating a plan of care that will be
effective.
• A weakness of this conference that I
saw is how it can make parents feel.
Halimo’s parents expressed shame
and guilt about not working with him
more and for the times they just let
him watch tv. Having a bunch of
experts telling parents they need to do
this and that can feel intimidating and
like you’re receiving a lecture. If
parents feel like they are being
reprimanded they might not want to
receive help and no progressive care
plan can be made.
