As learners of language in school, you already have had a lot of contact with teaching. What
aspects –teacher’s qualities, practices, etc.– of your own language teaching might influence how you
wish or do not wish to teach?
Experiences of being taught
POSITIVE
• Songs (head, shoulders, knees, and toes…): as a kid I loved listening to music while
learning vocabulary and riddles, it made easier to remember and made such a huge
impact on my motivation towards English. Because of that, I am willing to teach through
music.
o In addition, I think it worked since listening to our teacher singing boosted our
interest and curiosity, improving our language acquiring.
• Debating: another way of learning that I used –and still do– to love. It allows children to
express themselves, improvise and improves their critical thinking. I tend to apply them
in class since I don’t find –and never did– plenty of teachers that use this activity. Being
allowed to speak and to tell your thoughts about an interesting topic is wonderful when
you are a kid, it also boosts your self-confidence.
o I should highlight its benefits such as real social interactions, acquiring the
foreign language and having fun.
• Roleplaying: I remember writing down the text that we were going to perform later.
Having the opportunity to talk and create something with your classmates improves
social skills and the ability to cooperate.
Motivated and motivating teachers in primary school is a need and I am glad that I met my teacher
Pepe in Primary school, everything he did was wonderful. Everyone loved English because of his
