Teachers’ Rights, Safety, and Disempowerment"

The article addresses the context of discipline in South African public schools and
the challenges faced by teachers in maintaining discipline. It highlights the conflict
between traditional teacher authority and children's rights, as well as the impact of
legislation on teachers' rights to discipline learners. The problem statement highlights
the uncertainties faced by teachers regarding how far they can go in acting as the
learners’ parents, and how this affects the classroom discipline.
From a critical lens, it can be seen that the article recognizes the importance of
