Final Test - Notes
1. Importance of sociology: for society, me and for marketing:
- For society:
Understanding society, human relationships and the role of social institutions is extremely
important for social development.
Sociology therefore acts as a source of data on the factors that influence and shape social
relationships.
Sociology can also act in understanding population dynamics, analyzing life in the field and in
the city, in order to visualize the complex population dynamics that we have today. This is
extremely important for the governors to draw up social intervention policies that, in fact,
can improve the lives of the population in general.
- Me:
The science of society helps the individual to understand himself, his capacities, talents and
limitations. This allows him to adjust to his environment. Knowledge of society, social groups,
social institutions, associations, their functions, etc. helps us lead an effective social life.
Sociology can provide us with a broad worldview and help us understand that our “social
world” is not unique. What exists, in fact, is a social universe that is socially constructed and
through Sociology, we have the possibility of knowing, understanding and learning to respect
the differences of this multiplicity of social configurations that change with time and space.
Sociology makes it possible to confront different points of view, providing a critical approach
to social life, which helps the individual to make connections between social events that
enable an evaluation of policy results. As Bourdieu says, “There is no true democracy without
a critical spirit”. Individuals who are more informed and better prepared to read the social
reality become more capable of evaluating government actions, for example, that concern
the entire social system and that affect their personal lives.
Giddings in his book ‘Sociology’ says ‘sociology tell us how to become what we want to be’.>
- Marketing:
Sociology is needed in marketing to understand the process to connect the customer with the
company which, partly, depends on the perspective of society.
