, Steps and Standards of Evaluation
My program focuses on the prevention of obesity among children in Houston, Texas. It
strictly follows the six steps of the framework of program evaluation deduced from the CDC.
Steps followed include; Engaging stakeholders, describing the program, focusing on the
evaluation design, gathering credible evidence, justifying conclusions, and sharing lessons
learned (CDC, 2017).
The obesity preventions program among children in Houston effectively engaged
stakeholders. According to McKenzie et al. (2017), stakeholders are individuals involved in the
program evaluation. Stakeholders involved in obesity prevention among children are; Local
government, fitness instructors, early care educators, dietarians, Houston’s community,
community nurses, parents, and guardians. Stakeholders affected by the program are children
within the age of 10 to 17 years. The primary users of the program are CDC, National Institute of
Health, and The Institute of Medicine. The mentioned stakeholders are well represented in the
program. In the preliminaries, the program organizers are engaged through in-person discussions.
On describing the program, a clear road map was used to mention the program's mission,
goals, and objectives. A logic model that includes; inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, impacts,
and moderators are well described in the plan. The program focuses on managing and preventing
obesity among Houston's children between 10 to 17 years. Its effectiveness also intends to
benefit Texas and other states of the US. The program incorporates the local community,
public health, and the local government in helping children adhere to recommended health
behaviors. Focused health behaviors to be instilled among children are reduced screen time and
increased time for physical activities.
