, The Impact of Nursing Informatics on Patient Outcomes and Patient Care Efficiencies
Planning and implementing changes to our current practice is often challenging; however,
entirely necessary as new treatments and technologies in healthcare are constantly emerging
(Nagle et al., 2017). Currently, in our organization, bedside nurses and hospital physicians carry
around multiple technologies for communicating and documenting patient care, including
iPhones, pagers, Ascom phones, and computers on wheels (COWs) or laptops. This can be quite
burdensome, especially with the increase in provider-patient ratios that we have been seeing.
Nursing leadership has the unique and essential role of implementing informatics solutions due
to their broad expertise in collaboration (Mosier et al., 2019). Healthcare and nursing informatics
are often included in the process of improving patient outcomes and efficiencies due to the
expertise in designing and implementing innovative technologies into nursing and healthcare
practice (Nagle et al., 2017).
Proposed Project
I propose the implementation of TigerText for improvement in clinician communication
related to patient care. With TigerText, the organization is able to create a secure network for
text communication between authenticated users, providing safety and security regarding
sensitive data and content management (Kutscher, 2016). Leadership teams throughout the
organization have been utilizing TigerText for communication within our divisions for a few
years now.
Secure messaging has been quite successful for us in improving communication, especially when
urgency is of the nature. TigerText can provide a huge transformation in our current multimodal
and outdated interdisciplinary communication methods for hospital providers, nurses, and allied
health professionals. I believe utilizing a secure text messaging system for nurse and provider
