1.1 Ms Naidoo set the following questions for her Grade 3 learners
Kiran had half a slab of chocolate and his mum gave him a quarter of a slab of
chocolate. How much does he now have?
One learner, Tumi, calculated the answer as follows

1.1.1 Identify and discuss the misconception shown in Tumi’s calculation. (2)
1.1.2 Calculate the correct answer (2)
1.1.3 Suggest ways in which the misconception could be addressed.
Describe the resources/ apparatus you will use. include the correct mathematical terminology and
