1.3. Describe in what ways social media can contribute to the spread of
cyberbullying. (2×3)(6)
● Social media spreads harmful content very fast
, ○ Posts, pictures and comments can reach hundreds of people within
minutes.
○ Once something is online, it can be shared over and over or saved,
making it almost impossible to remove completely.
○ This makes the bullying feel like an endless cycle for the victim,
since the hurtful content continues circulating
● Social media makes it harder for victims to escape bullying as it is
everywhere.
○ Bullying doesn’t only happen at school anymore, it follows victims
into their homes through their phones or computers.
○ Victims may feel trapped because the bullying can happen any
time of day or night
○ The constant exposure can cause stress, anxiety, or fear, even when
the victim is in a “safe” place like their own home.
1.4. Assess TWO ways in which bullying and cyber bullying can affect a
young person’s mental health. (2×3)(6)
● Low Self-Esteem
○ Bullying can damage the way a person sees themselves.
○ They may begin to feel like they aren’t good enough or that nobody
wants them around
○ This lowers their confidence and can cause them to pull away from
others.
● Depression and Anxiety
○ Young people who are bullied often start to feel very sad, worried,
or even hopeless
○ Over time, this can develop into serious mental health issues such
as depression or anxiety disorders.
○ These mental health issues can lead to suicidal behavior
